The public’s perception of the profession is not good. Various studies have demonstrated over time that lawyers rank extremely low in the public’s mind with regards to important values such as trust, integrity and honesty. Internally, there are problems ranging from ethical violations and increasing lawyer dissatisfaction, to abnormally high divorce rates and high levels of alcohol and drug abuse. One might argue that this is no different from patterns experienced in other professions. The sad reality is, however, that although these problems exist in other professions, they appear to exist at higher levels among lawyers.
